Dated but insightful Richard Lottridge This book is notably dated in its outlook and frame of reference. (He speaks of "homosexual men and normal men" instead of "homosexual men and heterosexual men") But it is doubly informative because of that. He tells of what happened at the time, but because his writing so strongly reflects the mind-set of that time, we also understand what it was like to be a gay person then.. A necessarily defensive account. Allan Wade For the modern gay reader, "Against the Law" tells us much about the plight of homosexuals in the 1950s because of what it can't say. Against the Law by Peter Wildeblood This is an extremely important, brave and poignant book about the way gay men were hounded and treated in the UK during the 1950's and early 60's. Beautifully written - no self-pity or resentments - just a true story about a man who was innocent of any crime, apart from his sexuality which was deemed unlawful by the "powers that be" (or were) even when any gay relationship was in private.I am glad I read this book. Very powerful.
