Jack Watts has a way of writing that makes you analyze your own life choices. You often think, how could he keep making such poor choices, but a combination of alcohol and childhood pain explain his need to be a savior to others. I love his honesty and his realization that God was the only way for him to climb out of the dark hole that had plagued him for so long. I recommend this to drinkers andnon drinkers alike!. "Settle in" according to Christy K. Truitt. This book reads chronologically while weaving in the most delicate of backstories. The author superbly holds a mirror up to not only his own actions, but to the actions done to him and his family and the consequences they produce. But he does it in such a way the reader is able to muster a modicum of sympathy for even the most evil of actions, which is what Christ teaches us to do. Consequences abound, some in the most tragic way, but in the end love and forgiveness prevail. Overall, the book is a page turner. Each chapter ends in an "Okay, one more. I can recommend it without reservation." --Amy Hollingsworth, author of "The Simple Faith of Mister Rogers" . "This book is thorough, helpful, thoughtful
Watts openly talks of his multiple failed marriages, strained relationships with his children, overwhelming business losses, and the self-loathing and guilt that plagued him for years. In spite of all of this, Jack held on to the conviction he made more than fifteen years ago never to drink again. In this grippingly honest narrative about one man’s journey from addiction and self-destruction to recovery and a changed life, readers will be dismayed at the hurtful patterns of his two alcoholic parents and how they scarred and shaped the outcome of their three sons forever. The glimpses shared in these pages will inspire readers to be honest about their own demons and provide hope for a fulfilled and joyful life beyond the shackles of addiction.. Included are accounts of his efforts to live out the twelve steps in restoring relationships with family members and confronting the offender who molested his three daughters.A story like this is one that continues throughout a lifetime.
