DESCRIPTION:
Colorful stories of the old steam engines of yesteryear fill these pages — from the steam carriage operated on the streets of Paris in 1769 to the mighty locomotives that thundered across the American West in the latter half of the 19th century. 98 plates of fine, rare illustrations, many rendered by the author.
Robert P. Hart said American Locomotives, a Pictorial Record of Steam Power 1900-1950. "American Locomotives" was a major disappointment. There are a number of books with better pictures and books with significantly more statistical details of the depicted steam engines. Each steam train presented occupies two pages. The first page is a brief description followed by statistical data such as the locomotive builder, cylinders, weight, steam pressure, fuel quant. Alberto R.C. said A must for the steam locomotive fan. This is the kind of book that contains a lot of illustrations and no much text or history so it makes a really good item for those who want start learning about american steam locomotives. I think it can be a good book for kids because it has so many illustrations and the captions are rather brief and concise.. Lance Thomas said American Locomotives--Finally my own!. I am very glad that now I've got my own copy and don't have to check out the library's copy anymore! I thoroughly enjoy reading this book over and over! Thanks be to God!
