DESCRIPTION:

Ad Orientem said Oustanding Work. This is the best book I have come across so far on the history of White Star with an emphasis on its ships. The author provides remarkably detailed descriptions of every ship that flew the White Star Line's pennant with an emphasis on technical issues and engineering along with the service history. Most of the entries include one or more photos of the ship some of which were new to me. In addition one gets the feeling that the author rather enjoyed his work as evidenced by the occasional use of exclamatory (!) punctuation. Some. Review of Ships of the White Star Line This book is a must buy for anyone interested in the White Star Line and its history. You find out what brought about the trend of White Star ships names ending with ic, the events which brought on the construction of the Olympic class liners which included the Titanic, and what routes the line use to operate and the early ships of the White Star line before the Olympic Class came along, and how the White Star Line coped after the sinking of the Titanic right through to the merger with the Cunard Line. A little slow to get into. Love it I bought this for my boyfriend because the Olympic is his favorite ship. When he first opened it, he really enjoyed looking at all the picture. After a while, he then started teaching me about some of the ships and what he learned for this book. I'm definitely glad I bought this for him. He loves it.

Despite a number of disasters with heavy loss of life, the company grew quickly to dominate the North Atlantic route, with famous ships such as Britannic and Germanic taking the Blue Riband for the fastest crossing several times in the late 19th century. Its origins lay in Liverpool in the early 19th century, chartering sailing ships to Australia, but financial difficulties led to its takeover by Thomas Ismay in the
