Five Stars RBSTEWART Excellent general history of American railroads.. Doess not pass muster compared to other steam books If a picture is worth a thousand words- this author prefers words!!! As other reviewers stated- plenty of pictures but not usually in the right place! Pictures should be on same or facing page. IN some instances - NO pics- good example 'Decapod" interesting description - no pic (had to Google it!). One picture was supposed to show a train (there was back of one almost out of pic - but mainlyguy crossing track!) Chapter on Rolling Stock - author does not appear to know difference between lo. Darrel Drumm said A detailed review of not only steam locomotives, but a history of the railroads too. I enjoyed this book about steam and its effect on the railroads of the Americas. It went through the history of the various steam locomotive types, why they were developed and how they were used. There were many good pictures, some of which weren't old pictures, but those of modern tourist or excursion trains. There were a few mistakes such as a reversal of an image in one instance and a editor's error of making a date "196A detailed review of not only steam locomotives, but a history of the railroads too Darrel Drumm I enjoyed this book about steam and its effect on the railroads of the Americas.
