DESCRIPTION:
Still a Classic Theresa A. Loeffler I loved the movie with Sidney Poitier and I was curious how the book would read. I needn't have worried--the movie followed the book faithfully. Rick Braithwaite, a young black man, comes to England after the war with high hopes of using his military training to procure a good job. No one will hire him . Worth Reading Danielle N. Hart I read an abridged version of this in Readers' Digest Condensed books when I was much younger, so I was pleased to find this as a Daily Deal. It was quite readable, and I liked the way he was able to really give a picture of all the people. The way he tackled the subject of racism in the time and place . Mediocre book Sandy It was a thought provoking book about racial prejudices, told from a black mans perspective. It was good in that the man felt the prejudices against him but overcame them without holding grudges and made the most of his life. It was set in the post WWII era.
A book that the reader devours quickly, ponders slowly, and forgets not at all.” —The New York Times Book Review. “Moving and inspiring
