DESCRIPTION:
William Wakeland said I loved him dearly. Bruce was a dear friend. I loved him dearly. Such a well written book about such a deadly disease.. Heavy read about living/dying with ALS TJ Bruce Kramer was a university dean who, when diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), decided to write a blog about "living while dying"- called the Dis Ease Diary He eventually joined forces with Cathy Wurzer, an MPR personality and journalist, and this book is their final collaboration. Bruce Kramer died just a week before this book was released. The book starts each chapter with Wurzer's comments, followed by Kramer's writings many portions collected from his. "" Once I read online Cathy opens the chapters I reread her excellent Prologue to find where I missed the cue" according to pam. Eloquent prose. I am at the beginning still but am compelled to alert the reader. I am giving only three stars for one structural point that was confounding. There is a second voice woven into the book with no attribution. Nowhere in the preface did it say Cathy Wurzel, PBS journalist, would also weave her family story into the narrative. I guess I should have noticed the cover was "with" Once I read online Cathy opens the chapters I reread her excellent Prologue
The perspective and insights offered in We Know How This Ends reveal this daily reality and inspire a way forward for anyone who has suffered major loss and for anyone who surely will. 2010 had been a very good year for Bruce H. Kramer. Mutual friends put this unlikely pair—journalist and educator—together, and the serendipitous result has been a series of remarkable broadcast conversations, a deep friendship, and now this book.Written with wisdom, genuine humor, and down-to-earth observations, We Know How This Ends is far more than a memoir. His decision was the foundation for profound, personal reflection and growth, even as his body weakened, and inspired Kramer to share and teach the lessons he was learning from ALS about how to live as fully as possible, even in the midst of devastating grief. At the same time Kramer was diagnosed, broadcast journalist Cathy Wurzer was struggling with her own losses, especially the slow descent of her father into the bewildering world of dementia. It is a dignified, courageous, and unflinching look at how acceptance of loss and inevitable death can lead us all to a more
In this exquisite book, Bruce H. "Security and immortality are both superstitions; the best we can do is make an adventure of our lives. Kramer finds adventure the most unlikely of places: the death sentence that is ALS. We Know How This Ends is a moving tale that teaches us more about living well than any self-help book ever can."—Dan Buettner, New York Times bestselling author of The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest
