Swokowski's work, and his follow-on calculus text, deserve ten stars. They are both models of exposition. "Algebra & Trigonometry" in particular helped me overcome a conviction that I couldn't do math. In that sense it may have changed my life more than any other book I've ever read. My copy -- I will never part with it -- is decades old, but every now and then I still dip into it, whenever I need some oddball angle formula that I've forgotten.But I give this one star because this it's a rank, stinking example of the greed of . "Useless" according to Someone. This book will not help a student whatsoever. If you're taking a class that requires you to use this book, get ready to find another textbook in addition to this one because its basically a waste of money. This book is made to impress professors, not to help students. Hopefully this goes out of print soon. Unless you have to, DON'T BUY IT.
