Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Color History Robert Wilhelm Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Color History describes the rich history of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad from 1827 to 1987 when it merged into CSX Corporation. The book has excellent black and white and color photographs of Baltimore and Ohio passenger trains like the National Limited and Capitol Limited and freight trains. I like the color photos of the National Limited (Cover and page 43) at Jersey City with a pair of Baltimore and Ohio E8 diesels on the front of the National Limited in April 1958. I also like the color photo of the National Limited at St. Louis Union Station sharing the platform . "Great History and Photos of the B&O" according to S. D. Linke. I am thinking about modeling the B&O and this book provides great photos and a history of the railroad which is truly inspiring. I would recommend this to anyone interested in the B&O.. T'was Once a leader L. Henderson Very informative review of the B&O when it was a force to be reckoned with.
As Americas first common-carrier railroad--a railroad mandated to operate for the public and for commerce--the Baltimore & Ohio set the stage for North American railway development. With an all-new collection of more than 150 photos and illustrations, the book gives a colorful account of the evolution of one of the nations most enduring railroad icons, through good times and bad. The book tells how the B&O, handicapped by its rugged route from the East Coast to the Midwest nonetheless proved second to none in serving its customers--whether on star passenger lines like the Capitol Limited and National Limited or on a freight network that included such notable offerings as "Sentinel Service" and the "Timesaver" freights. And as such, the railroad racked up a remarkable list of firsts--first to offer scheduled passenger service, first to experiment with steam power, and the first air-conditioned passenger cars, lightweight streamliners, high-speed passenger diesels, and "piggyback" freight services--to name just a few. The railroads story, as it unfolds in these pages, makes for an evocative journey through 160 years of railroad history.. In this expanded hardcover reissue of the popular 2000 release, authors Kirk Reynolds and Dave Oroszi explore these accomplishments, and with them a significant chapter in American railway history. Reynolds and Oroszi follow the B&O
