an unusual, clever, and fun angle on contemporary art The editor/curators of this book got 50 contemporary artists to each write down instructions for a do-it-yourself art project, for the reader to try. And I have to say, reading the (often hilarious) notes from many different artists describing the how AND why of creating a art exhibit did expand my concept of Art. But whether they struck me as goofy or serious, all of the entries are quite thought-provoking. (search online for "David Lynch Ricky Board" for an interesting example) My personal favorite involves the instruction to "buy or rent
Essays by Kaelen Wilson-Goldie and Adila Laïdi-Hanieh and a conversation between co-curators Hoor Al Qasimi and Obrist, which considers the relevance of Do It within the context of the Arabic-speaking world, accompany these instructions.. Embodying Marcel Duchamp’s words that “art is a game between all people of all periods,” Do It in Arabic features more than 70 artists’ instructions, in both English and Arabic, that anyone can use to make a new work of art.Since its inception in 1993, Hans Ulrich Obrist’s multiplatform Do It project has been realized in more than 50 locations worldwide.
