"Very informative. Begins to trace a new trajectory of feminist theory in this "post-feminist" era." according to cassandra laity. The period from the late 1990s to the present has been known in literary criticism as a post-feminist era. Feminist theory has lagged behind in the interval witnessing the post-millennial turn from post-modernism and studies of social construction to the new emphasis on "Modernity": and "real" lived experience. This book begins to fill in the gaps by pointing to new "material feminisms" whereby the materiality of the body and "lived experience" might be brought to bear on feminist inquiry/the female body.Cassandra Laity. Fantastic JAM This book is great! If you are looking for an introduction to material feminism this book really does a great job. Most of the essays in the book are easily accessible for anyone who has a basic understanding of feminist theory, or even critical theory. I really enjoyed reading this book.

Rather than the concept of mind over matter, this work maintains that matter and mind are equal forces, and that there are real consequences to placing one above the othe

Harnessing the energy of provocative theories generated by recent understandings of the human body, the natural world, and the material world, Material Feminisms presents an entirely new way for feminists to conceive of the question of materiality. These wide-ranging essays grapple with topics such as the material reality of race, the significance of sexual difference, the impact of disability experience, and the complex interaction between nature and culture in traumatic events such as Hurricane Katrina. In lively and timely essays, an international group of feminist thinkers challenges the assumptions and norms that have previously defined studies about the body. By insisting on the importance of materiality, this volume breaks new ground in philosophy, feminist theory, cultural studies, science studies, and other fields where the body and nature collide.
