DESCRIPTION:
This book is the first to address the established and emerging international standards related to image/video/audio compression and coding. As audio and visual applications on CDs and on the Internet become more complex (videophones, multimedia books and videogames, video conferencing), coding and compression of these files is necessary for speed and size requirements. Covers all of the international standards for coding and compression, both approved and emerging, plus the latest coding and compression techniques, concepts, and principles. For engineers and software developers working in multimedia, communications, and networking.
This book demonstrates the various techniques available for coding and compression, and also discusses the international standards in place to insure that different systems developed using these techniques can communicate. . From the Publisher As multimedia applications become more prevelent (videophones, multimedia books, videogames, video conferencing) the files traveling the net are getting bigger and slower! One way in which to compensate for this is by coding and compressing files
"A support book for any engineer" according to A Customer. I read this book while I was working on a project at UPC (Spain), which talked about Digital Television. It was specially useful in topics like MPEG, where Mr. Rao explained clearly the mathematics and other techniques involved in this kind of compression. It has to be considered a reference book since it has the information to build coders, decoders, etc. Personally, I think any engineer working on topics which involve image or audio processing should own this book.
