Litany of Northwest Pacific Shipwrecks! Mike O'Connor Since the late 16th Century, ships have sailed the waters of the Pacific Northwest. Ships large and small have fallen victim to the treacherous currents, rock-strewn coastline and zero-visibility fog conditions, especially around Vancouver Island. THE GRAVEYARD OF THE PACIFIC details the fate of various ships who have 'come a cropper' in the far north.Author Anthony Dalton examine the final voyages of some two dozen ships, ranging from four-masted barques to 8,000-ton freighters, RCN trawlers to sidewheel . Ned Middleton said Unoriginal title with uninspiring content.. According to the short bio, Anthony Dalton has previously written eight works about ships and the sea. In this particularly lean book (which can be read from cover to cover in very little time) we are supposed to believe part of Vancouver Island situated at the Pacific interface between Canada and the USA is ‘The’ Graveyard of the Pacific. The content, however, does not support this assertion. If it’s not the. "Kids love to have it read to them" according to grannienannie. I had a copy of this book many years ago. It has real stories of the ships that sank at the mouth of the Columbia River, each of which is spell binding. Kids love to have it read to them. It generates lots of questions about the old days. One I remember is about a square rigger that sank off Peacock Spit where rescue went on unsuccessfully for days. The many people on the ship had to climb the mast and stand for days in the rigging. The horrified people on the beach watched day and night, trying their best
