It takes you into the boardroom, where golden parachutes are signed off, and onto the hangar floor, where engineers battle accounting cuts to keep planes flying safely. This is the warts and all history the Qantas PR department does not want you to read but you can bet they'll be reading it, too!. It takes you back to the foundation of the airline to disprove the line that Qantas never crashes. This book is the account of the Qantas story that every airline passenger needs to read: the full and frank history of Australia's national airline—updated with two new chapters
"Nobody "killed" Qantas, but a decent read nonetheless" according to Nate Goyer. I was very eager to read this because, as a frequent flyer, I've experienced first hand the quality of Qantas go from high to low in the last 15 years. As an MBA student I was keen to read a story about a series of airline presidents, directors and managers who were to blamewho knows, maybe I'd learn from someone else's mistakes. What I got was a very interesting history on the airline and no real dirt or blame for the condition of the airline. Each generation of management made so. Having worked in the Engineering area of aviation for 25 years I find this book very good. It depicts the industry as I found it and it still has the same old problems. Cutting corners and saving money was always there. We had work done by overseas contractors and on one occasion one of our aircraft came back with a crack 27 inches long that was missed on a major serviceing. This was one of many faults that were found over the years.Thomas
