J. boyle said The gales of November. Sixty-two years before the lake steamer Edmund Fitzgerald was lost, a huge storm system played havoc on the Great Lakes. More than a dozen ships were lost with more than a hundred killed. In the days before sophisticated weather forecasting and before most ships had radios, let alone radar or satellite data, sailors were at the mercy of fast moving November storms that marked the end of the sailing season on the Great Lakes.Brown does an excellent job explaining the meteorological details and the limits of forecasting at the time. The book really comes alive when he details the fates of the ships that found themselves in . Interesting Great Lakes history, a little dry Catherine M. Brooks-fava This was a interesting history of storms on the Great Lakes and how they affected shipping. At times the litany of names and dates was a little dry, but being from the Great Lakes area, I found it interesting.. Informative, Intriguing, and Enjoyable The story is very interesting and enjoyable. It was a very easy read. The author put the stories together very well with factual newspaper clippings, weather reports, and information today.
