I started this book already a great fan of Thor Heyerdahl, especially his Kon-Tiki and Easter Island exploits. I had viewed him as an explorer, but often outside the scientific mainstream. This book reinforces, then dispels, that image. He is an adventurer and explorer, but his scientific credentials are solid. Some of the most interesting portions of this book for me was his describing how he was treated by the academic community initially. That changed and the perspective of academia was altered over time.He uses an interesting technique to permit periodic Q&A's: His aku-aku (a still small voice, perhaps?) asks questions that the
