. Mr. Hughes received a B.S. About the Author Thomas A. Hughes has taught numerous courses in electronics, mathematics, and instrumentation systems at the college level and in industry. Hughes, a Senior Member of ISA - The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society, has over 30 years of experience in the design and installation of instrumentation and control systems. He holds professional engineering licenses in the states of Colorado and Alaska, and has held engineering and management positions with Dow Chemical, Rockwell International, EG&G Rocky Flats, Topro Systems Integration, and the International Atomic Energy Agency. He is currently the Principal Consultant with Nova Systems Engineering Services in Arvada, Colorado. Mr. in engineering physics from the University of Colorado and a M.S. in control systems engineering from Colorado State University

"Foundation for a Control Systems Engineer" according to N. Bartscher. I'm in the process of preparing to take the Principles and Practices Exam for Control Systems Engineering. I studied Electrical Engineering in college and have worked mostly with distributed/digital controls since then. I have performed little to no valve sizing or instrument selection.I purchased this book to lay the foundation for the things I did not learn in school and have not practiced at work (instruments and valves). This book is simple to read and provides the right amount of detail for teaching the Basics. I reviewed this book before taking an ISA CSE PE review course. Meas. Four Stars Alese Simon Wish it would have shipped faster- but just as stated in description. "Needs Improvement" according to D. Brown. Good coverage of process control/loops and most measurement sensors/fundamentals, especially analytical instruments. Electrical theory needs to include basic electronics. Too many equations and impractical examples, many errors including temperature conversion equation and RTD Alpha units and Boolean logic sysmbols drawn as squares. Poor and inaccurate coverage of gauge and absolute pressure. No mention of pneumatics, IR thermometers, Needs Improvement D.
