Shocking In Its Time-- How The World Has Changed A reviewer below calls this dated. Well, it's 22 years old! I bought it when it first came out and had to hide it from the kids due to some of the photos of rather extreme body modifications-- now those kids are grown, and the world they inhabit contains millions of examples of what was rare and shocking in its day. Facial tattoos, multiple piercings, all manner of body mods: they're an everyday experience now. Look at this as an intrigui. An interesting look into attitudes & realities of body modification in the late 1980s Pretty great little time capsule, really - hard for me to imagine a time when body modification was so much more taboo and uncommon versus it's prevalence today. Having come of age in the early 2000s, I've seen many shifts in popularity and acceptability of tattoos & other modifications in a pretty short time, but this is a good survey of Western attitudes towards this sort of thing in the 1980s - especially if you weren't there.
