DESCRIPTION:
Nathan, PhD, University of Iowa Foundation Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Public Health, University of Iowa. Clinicians who want to enhance their therapeutic effectiveness should read this book and consider whether and how MI might enable them to better help patients achieve their therapeutic goals."--Peter E. "This is the book I've been waiting for! It details encouraging results from the use of motivational interviewing (MI)--a brief intervention with well-documented effectiveness with substance abusers--for treating patients with a range of other conditions
"Expanded use for MI" according to Kindle Customer. I am a clinical supervisor in a behavioral health unit that serves mostly general mental health and substance abuse, a lot of co-occuring disorders, a lot of personality disorders. I have attended seminars by Miller & Duncan, read several of their books, been on their web site, watched training videos from their earlier work in the 1990s, use the CDOI method for assessing progre. Not What I Was Expecting This book provides an excellent overview of:1) What Motivational Interviewing is2) When its use is appropriate (always, in their opinion -- but I'm sold on that)3) How it (favorably) compares to other methods of therapyWhat is doesn't give you is a strong foundation for how to use the technique. I was hoping for this, so I was disappointed.I guess you can sort of figure it out b. Great Book/Add not complete The book was listed as brand new with some shelf wear. I found that the 1st chapter was highlighted. Otherwise it came quickly was in good shape and a book I wanted. This will keep up your score. But it would be good in the future to say "Almost brand new with some highlighting in the 1st chapter".-Mark
Since the publication of Miller and Rollnick's classic Motivational Interviewing, MI has become hugely popular as a tool for facilitating many different kinds of positive behavior change. This cutting-edge book brings together leading experts to describe MI applications in the treatment of anxiety, depression, PTSD, suicidal behavior, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders, gambling addictions, schizophrenia, and dual diagnoses. MI is increasingly being used to help individuals mobilize their energy, commitment, and personal resources for addressing a wide range of mental health concerns. Each chapter provides a concise overview of the disorder or population under discussion; describes how MI has been integrated with standard treatment approaches; illustrates the nuts and bolts of intervention, using vivid clinical examples; and reviews the empirical evidence base. This book is in the Applications of Motivational Interviewing series.. Also addressed are MI approaches in the criminal justice system
